ARE YOU WEARING THE RIGHT CLOTHES?
Ever wondered why you feel fabulous in some clothes and not others?
Or how some clothes make you feel taller and slimmer while others make you frumpy?
It’s all about knowing what shapes suit, flatter and disguise.
There are 5 key body shapes. Rectangle, Pear, Strawberry, Hourglass and Oval.
As a stylist my job is curating clothes that work for your shape , so you feel amazing.
Today we are exploring the Rectangle Shape. It’s one of the most common body shapes, 45% of us are this shape.
If you are rectangular you have a straight silhouette and no curves. Your shoulders, waist and hips are in line. You are straight up and down!
You are the same size top and bottom with a small bust.
It’s an Androgynous, Sporty, Tomboy look.
This shape is most commonly seen on the catwalks because it’s the shape you can most transform.

The key to dressing this shape is to opt for clean lines, angled shapes and structured fabrics that will flatter your figure and create the illusion of shape.
Tailoring is your best friend.
If you want to create feminine looks we broaden the shoulders by wearing jackets with a structured shoulder (padded).
Broadening your shoulders makes your waist look instantly smaller!!
Always ensure your jacket is fitted at the waist or it won’t achieve this effect.
Waisted Double-breasted jackets or single breasted jackets will achieve this illusion.
Look at the relationship in the image above between shoulder and waist. The wider your shoulder the smaller your waist.😁

Choose silks and chiffon shirts and tops to wear underneath jackets as this softens and contrasts against the tailoring.
Also reduces volume.

High waisted trousers with pleats and pockets give extra volume on your lower half, perfect for giving shape to a rectangle who doesn’t have hips or thighs. Teamed with fitted tops gives the illusion of a waist
and lengthens your leg.
Keep jeans straight or wide and mid-rise. If you have a long torso, high rise works well.

Waisted/Belted Dresses that fit snugly on top and full on the bottom half, create a great silhouette for a Rectangle.

Drop waist full skirts with simple clean lines work best again on creating volume on your lower body on a rectangle.
These are just a few tips from my Fashion Master Class.
Katie Holmes, Victoria Beckham, Gweneth Paltrow are all rectangles with simple, effortless, pared back looks that compliment and flatter their Rectangle shape.
