Hi Everyone,
Welcome to Day 4 of Body Shapes!
Today is all about the Rectangle Shape. It’s one of the most common body shapes, they say 45% of us are this shape.
This is the shape we see primarily on the catwalks…why? Because this shape can wear any clothes.
If you are rectangle you have a straight silhouette, no curves with your shoulders, waist and hips more or less in line. You have an androgynous, Sporty or “tomboy” look.
The key to dressing this shape is to opt for clean lines, angled shapes and structured fabrics that flatter your figure rather than high light your lack of curves. So how do we do this?
If you want to create a feminine look we elongate the shoulders by wearing jackets with structured shoulders (padded) this broadens your shoulders making your waist instantly smaller looking. Always ensure your jacket is waisted and not straight or it won’t achieve this effect. Waisted double-breasted jackets are great for adding extra volume around the hips.
Remember you can wear any style but for an ultra-feminine look pick trousers that are high waisted, pleating and pockets all giving extra volume.
Keep jeans straight and mid-rise. If you have a long torso high rise is good.
Same with skirts and dresses. Waisted dresses that fit snugly on top and full on the bottom half create a great silhouette.
Choose silks and chiffon shirts and tops to wear underneath jackets as this softens and contrasts against the tailoring.
