STYLING YOUR SUMMER BLAZER

Hi everyone and welcome to this month’s “Beyond Fashion” Newsletter.

One of the quickest ways to look put together and quietly confident is your Jacket/Blazer.

Your no.1 wardrobe staple, the blazer, is the hardest working basic that will never let you down. Dress it up, dress it down you will always look well put together, slim and strong!!

A blazer once the reserve of business women is now a basic in most women’s wardrobe. Yes it’s great for the office but it is equally great on the weekend with jeans and a tee.

Even Spank leggings and heels teamed with a fitted long line jacket is a cool look too.

Blazers work for everyone regardless of age, size or style once you know what length and fit suits you best.

Fitted jackets with a strong shoulder are great for giving you a nice curvy shape. A boxy shape is better if you are carrying a little weight.

Hip lengths suit most heights, but be careful not to go too long or this will make your legs look shorter unless you’re wearing heels.

A key trend for A/W2022 is still oversized Jackets with large shoulders but always choose what works for you regardless of trends.

Once you know your fit then the sky’s the limit and you can experiment with colour, fabrics and pattern. Start off with the basic navy, cream or black jacket first that will lend itself to the clothes already in your wardrobe and build out from there.

My Top 5 Styling Tips for a Blazer:

1. Blazer with a Maxi Dress.

An oversized long line blazer looks so chic over a long satin slip dress. Or try a shorter belted jacket if teaming with a fuller A-line dress.

Selecting a jacket that picks up on the same colour tone of the dress gives a sophisticated look.

If like me you find long-line floaty dresses shapeless then try a jacket for structure.

2. Blazer with Trousers

A formal suit may feel a little dated now but a blazer and trousers are ideal office looks.
If choosing wide leg trousers go for a belted blazer for shape and definition with heels.
A narrow leg trousers and side pockets works well with a single button jacket and flats.
While navy and black are your go to colours try neutrals to cheer up any Monday Blues!
If the dress code is corporate, go more tailored.

3. Blazer with Jeans.

The ultimate smart casual look for weekends, meeting friends etc. This is definitely my go to look and will never let you down. A navy blazer a white t-shirt and your favourite jeans will take you anywhere. Add a silk cami to make it dressier. Footwear will set the tone for how smart or casual you want to be….. runners, slides, flats or heels you decide!

4. Blazer with Leather Pants/Leggings

I truly believe you can wear leather at any age (keep it matt) it’s all about how you style it. I would opt for a black long line waisted blazer covering the bum and flat ankle boots or flat funky shoes.

Depending on the time of year and the neckline I would wear a fine knit or silky t-shirt keeping the whole look very simple and understated with a statement earring or ring.

This is a great smart/casual weekend look.

5. Blazer with Hoodie

This is such a trendy cool way to layer up while keeping smart at the same time.

The trick is to choose lightweight non bulky hoodies that sit nicely inside a blazer with the hood pulled out.

Fine cotton, wool & cashmere will all work fab with navy, black & camel blazers for a lux look.

Box fresh white runners is the best footwear for this run around look.
